Different TMT Bar Types & Their Uses in Indian Construction
- Fe-415 TMT bars: These bars have a minimum yield strength of 415 N/mm2 and are typically used in low-rise buildings, residential constructions and non-load bearing walls.
- Fe-500 TMT bars: These bars have a minimum yield strength of 500 N/mm2 and are typically used in medium-rise buildings, commercial constructions, load-bearing walls and beams.
- Fe-550 TMT bars: These bars have a minimum yield strength of 550 N/mm2 and are typically used in high-rise buildings, heavy-duty constructions, bridges, flyovers and in areas prone to natural disasters such as earthquakes.
- Fe-600 TMT bars: These bars have a minimum yield strength of 600 N/mm2 and are typically used in ultra-high-rise buildings, large infrastructural projects such as dams and ports, high-stress load-bearing structures and heavy-duty industrial constructions.
- Ultima TMT bars: These bars are a specialized type of TMT bars with a unique rib pattern, which increases the bond strength between the concrete and the reinforcement. They are typically used in constructions where high seismic resistance is required such as bridges, flyovers and other high-stress load-bearing structures.
The selection of TMT bars should be done as per the structural requirement and codes of the construction project. The appropriate grade of TMT bars should be selected based on the specific needs of the construction, including the size and type of structure, location and soil conditions.
